What is Mountain Gu?

Mountain Gu is a free planning tool for mountain climbing trips. It helps you organize a gear checklist, record climb details and an itinerary, and plan meals and water — all in one place.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no login, and no account of any kind. You can start using the App immediately.

Is Mountain Gu free?

Yes, completely free to use.

Your data

Where is my trip data stored?

Entirely in your own browser, using a feature called localStorage. Nothing is sent to a server — we don't see your trip data, store it, or have access to it. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Will I lose my data if I clear my browser or switch devices?

Yes. Since data is stored only on the device and browser you used, clearing site data, switching browsers, or switching devices will not carry your saved trips over. Use the Export feature to save a backup file before doing any of these.

Can I use Mountain Gu on multiple devices?

Each device/browser keeps its own separate data — there's currently no sync between devices. You can use Export/Import to manually move a trip from one device to another.

Using the App

Are the gear suggestions and itinerary times accurate for my specific climb?

No — they're generic, template-based estimates meant as a starting point for your own planning, not a personalized assessment. Always verify conditions, timing, and gear needs against official sources, current weather, and your own experience. See our Terms & Conditions for more on this.

Does Mountain Gu work offline?

Once the page has loaded in your browser, most features will continue to work without an internet connection, since everything runs locally. We recommend loading the App at least once while online before heading somewhere with no signal.

Can I use Mountain Gu on my phone?

Yes — it's designed mobile-first and works in any modern browser, no installation needed.

Is there an app store version?

Not currently — Mountain Gu is a web app you use directly in your browser.

Will Mountain Gu ever show ads?

We may introduce advertising in the future to help support ongoing development. If that happens, we'll update the Privacy Policy and Terms first, with full details.
