Privacy Policy

Mountain Gu ("the App", "we", "us") is a free web app for planning mountain climbing trips: gear checklists, climb details, itinerary, and meal/water planning. This policy explains what information the App handles and how.

Mountain Gu does not have user accounts and does not send your trip data to any server. Everything you type — gear checks, climb details, itinerary, meal plans — is stored only in your own browser, on your own device, using a technology called localStorage. We don't see it, collect it, or sell it.

1. Information we do not collect

The App does not require sign-up or login, and does not ask for your name, email, or any personal identifiers to function. We do not operate a backend database of user trip data.

2. Local storage on your device

To save your progress between visits, the App writes your trip data to your browser's localStorage on your own device. This is a browser feature, not a cookie, and it is never transmitted to us or any third party — it simply lets the App remember your work the next time you open it on the same browser and device.

You can clear this at any time from the App's About → Manage saved data screen, or by clearing your browser's site data for Mountain Gu.

3. Cookies

The App does not currently use cookies, and does not run any analytics or advertising scripts. No cookie consent banner is shown because no cookies or non-essential tracking technologies are in use today.

4. Hosting & server logs

The App is served as a static site through a hosting provider (e.g. Netlify or Cloudflare Pages). Like virtually all web hosts, our provider may automatically log basic technical information for security and reliability purposes — such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested. We do not access this data for marketing purposes, and it is governed by our hosting provider's own privacy practices.

5. Children's privacy

Mountain Gu is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your choices

All trip data is stored locally — you can export it (Export button), delete it (Manage saved data), or simply clear your browser storage at any time.
Using the App in a private/incognito window, or in a browser with storage disabled, means your progress won't be saved between visits, but no data is collected either way.

7. International users

Mountain Gu is developed in Japan and may be used by visitors worldwide. Because the App does not transmit personal data off your device, there is currently no cross-border transfer of personal data by us. If this changes (e.g. with AdSense or analytics), this policy will be updated accordingly, with regard to applicable frameworks such as the EU/UK GDPR and Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI).

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves — for example, when ads or analytics are introduced. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent revision.
